Group Descriptions - Development
Advanced Transitional (8 - 12 years old)
Advanced (9 - 13 years old)
Advanced includes both younger, experienced competitive swimmers and older, less-committed, experienced competitive swimmers. Swimmers learn more advanced technical correction in all 4 strokes, under waters, starts, breakouts, and turns. Advanced swimmers are expected, but not required, to compete throughout the season at age and skill appropriate competitions. These swimmers will begin to learn to train and race at a higher level. This will include much higher volume and intensity during practice while remaining focused on technique, discipline, and fundamentals. They will gain an understanding of the importance of commitment, goal setting, work ethic, sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship, perseverance, and self-discipline. Our focus is not only the development of the athlete, but the development of the whole person on and off the pool deck. Swimmers in this group must have competitive swimming experience.
Development (7 - 12 years old)
MUSAC’s D evelopment program includes beginners and younger experienced competitive athletes. It is a more competitively focused group where swimmers learn to apply basic technical correction to each stroke and fundamental competitive swimming skills. These athletes are introduced to the different aspects of racing and training, including controlling their speed and effort. They can compete in all 3 in-house time trials, 3 development meets, and select travel meets (depending on speed and ability). They will gain a love for racing, an understanding of sportsmanship, a bundle of new friends, and valuable life skills. Swimmers must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke for a minimum of 25m.
Sharks (6 - 12 years old)
Sharks is MUSAC’s youngest competitive group meant for ambitious beginners who love to swim and want to start to compete. They continue to develop all 4 competitive strokes and build concrete fundamental competitive swimming skills through fun and games. They can compete in all 3 in-house time trials in Bracebridge and attend 3 development level meets during the season. They will gain confidence in the water, a bundle of new friends, and valuable life skills. Swimmers must be registered as competitive.
